Crystal Velvet is the sister store to the successful Beads By Design (retailer of beads and findings for making jewellery) For many years now we have sold the handcrafted creations of Karen Clark through Beads By Design, but as the ranges of handmade accessories and beads etc are growing and developing we feel that it is now the time to divide the stores.

Crystal Velvet will sell our handcrafted Jewellery, Tiaras, Bags and Hats, whilst Beads By Design will continue with the beads and findings.

 Karen Clark started out as a Professionally qualified Interior Designer but was swayed away from this path when clients began to appreciate the design and quality of her handcrafted jewellery items. Before long commissions were coming in and as establishments in and around East Yorkshire began to show an interest in stocking the jewellery, Karen began to source from further afield. Her contacts with manufacturers in the far East means that often beads are made to her specifications in small runs.

The Tiara lines were developed at the request of one of Karen's stockists and are an enjoyable part of designing. "it is a privilege to be so closely involved in someones special day. There is no greater joy than to see the bride wearing one of my creations!"

The bags came into being only this last year and are a new and exciting venture.  Again it was a client who asked if Karen could create a bag to go with an outfit that started this line off.  We have a lot of interest in the ever changing product line.

Karen believes in sharing her talent's and teaches beading on a one to one basis.  She also runs children's and adults beading parties where she will take more beads than you have ever seen  (unless you've visited us!).  The children (or adults)  get to create two or three items of jewellery and always enjoy themselves.  Even the parents get involved.... beading should come with a health warning to say this is addictive!!

Karen has recently designed a stained glass door for the local village church in South Cave. (Pictures will arrive once it is finished.... these things take time!)
